Living and Non-Living
After doing a class brainstorm together on living things, we went outside to look for living and non-living things in our environment at IDBEC. Then as a class we sorted and checked to make sure everyone was on the right track!
I see, think and wonder
We used this visible thinking tool in order to begin to generate questions about what we wanted to learn in our unit about living things. Students are learning to observe and make connections from what they observe to our central idea and what we will investigate.
Sami Abdulrahman Park
We explored the park to see what living and non-living things we could find there. Students found gardeners to interview to ask about the issues with gardening and to find out what animals they have seen there while working.
Erbil Zoo
We went to the zoo to explore what animals need to survive. We looked at the habitats to see if they were like a natural habitat or not, whether animals are stimulated with enrichment activities or not, if food is given so they can hunt for it or simply handed out, whether their space is sufficient for their size and if the zoo is safe for visitors (does it have a ha-ha space between visitors and enclosures?)
